Ingredients Needed

  • 2 sheets (640g / 22.5 oz) puff pastry
  • 350g (1 ⅙ cups) Nutella
  • 1 large egg
  • Icing sugar (powdered sugar), optional

How To Make Nutella Puff Pastry Snowflake

  1. Preheat the oven: Set the oven to 200ºC / 392ºF / Gas Mark 6.
  2. Prepare the puff pastry: Unroll both sheets of puff pastry. Place a large plate on one sheet and cut out a circle. Repeat with the second sheet.
  3. Use pastry offcuts: Press the leftover pastry pieces together to form a third circle and cut it out.
  4. Assemble the layers: Place a sheet of baking parchment on a baking tray. Lay the first puff pastry circle on the tray. Spread a layer of Nutella evenly over it. Place the second circle on top, spread another layer of Nutella, then top with the third puff pastry circle.
  5. Mark the center: Use a small bowl to lightly mark the center of the pastry without cutting through.
  6. Cut the snowflake shape: Cut the pastry into quarters, then cut each quarter in half to make 8 sections. Cut each of those in half again to make 16 equal strips.
  7. Twist the pieces: Take two adjacent strips. Twist the left one anticlockwise and the right one clockwise about three times. Repeat around the entire pastry for a symmetrical look.
  8. Brush with egg wash: Beat the egg and brush it over the pastry for a golden finish.
  9. Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 20–26 minutes or until golden brown. Baking times may vary, so keep an eye on it.
  10. Cool and serve: Let it cool slightly, then dust with icing sugar if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Use cold puff pastry: Keep the pastry cold before assembling to make it easier to handle and prevent it from becoming too soft.
  • Spread Nutella easily: Warm the Nutella slightly before spreading to avoid tearing the pastry. Microwave it for a few seconds or stir well.
  • Twist gently: Don’t overtwist the strips—three twists are enough to create a beautiful shape without breaking the pastry.
  • Watch your oven: Baking times vary, so check after 20 minutes. The pastry should be golden and crispy but not too dark.

How To Store Leftovers?

  • Refrigerate: Let the Nutella puff pastry snowflake cool to room temperature. Store it in an airtight container or wrap it tightly in plastic wrap. Keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Enjoy it cold or at room temperature.
  • Freeze: Place the cooled snowflake in a freezer-safe bag or wrap it well in plastic wrap and foil. Freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature for about 1 hour before serving.
