Easy Puff Pastry Apple Turnovers

Puff Pastry Apple Turnovers

These Easy Apple Turnovers are a simple and delicious treat made with store-bought puff pastry. They have a crispy, flaky crust filled with sweet, cinnamon-spiced apples. With just a few ingredients and minimal effort, you can bake up these golden pastries for breakfast, dessert, or a quick snack.

Ingredients Needed:

  • 2 cups small diced (peeled) apples
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 (17.3-oz.) package of frozen puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed
  • Flour, for dusting work surface
  • 1 large egg, whisked
  • Crystal sanding sugar (optional)

How To Make These Apple Turnovers:

  1. Preheat the oven: Set the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the apple filling: In a large bowl, mix the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  3. Roll out the pastry: Lightly flour a work surface, then unfold the puff pastry sheets. Roll them gently with a rolling pin to seal any creases. Cut each sheet into 4 squares.
  4. Fill and fold the turnovers: Use a slotted spoon to place some apple filling in the center of each square. Fold the pastry diagonally to form a triangle. Press the edges with a fork to seal, then transfer to the baking sheets, leaving space between each.
  5. Add finishing touches: Cut three small slits at the top of each turnover. Brush with whisked egg and sprinkle with sanding sugar (if using).
  6. Bake: Bake for 17–20 minutes until golden brown and puffed. Let cool on a wire rack before serving warm or at room temperature.

Recipe Tips

  • Best apples to use: Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn hold their shape and add the best flavor.
  • No sanding sugar? You can use regular granulated sugar or skip this step.
  • Serving ideas: Enjoy with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar.

How To Store & Reheat Leftovers

In the fridge: Store turnovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

In the freezer: Freeze unbaked turnovers on a baking tray until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.

Reheating: Warm in a 200°C (400°F) oven for 5 minutes or air fry at 180°C (350°F) for 3–4 minutes until crisp.
